Migration and Immigration

Westport students explore geographic concepts related to migration and learn about a broad range of immigrant and refugee experiences in both historical and contemporary contexts. Students read about American ethnic history and diversity through both European and non-European narratives.

Grade 6 students attend an author visit at the Westport Library sponsored by the United Nations Association of Southwestern Connecticut (UNA SW CT). Omar Mohammed and New York Times bestselling author/artist Victoria Jamieson wrote When Stars Are Scattered to tell the story of Omar Mohamed, a Somali refugee, from his time in a Kenyan refugee camp where he cared for his largely non-verbal brother to his eventual life in the United States.
