Black and Latino Studies

Westport students learn about Black and Latino history in both United States and World History contexts. A full year course, Black, African American, Latino, and Puerto Rican Studies, is offered at Staples High School.

Black, African American, Latino, and Puerto Rican Studies students create a bulletin board for Black History Month to show what they learned from the Black Stories walking tour of Westport.
Guest speaker Zeke Levine, Ph.D. candidate at NYU, presented to our 7th grade social studies classes an in depth review of Jazz and Blues history and the importance of locomotives and trains at the turn of the 20th century. Zeke’s presentation was enriched with archival images and rare recordings.
